CPA Australia Membership Pathway for Nepalese

Last week I reached out to CPA Australia to know more about how CPA Pathway agreement works for Nepalese Chartered Accountants having membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal. There are a few steps we need to follow to know so that CPA Australia can help us out.

Thank you for your email regarding Pathway agreement with Nepalese Chartered Accountants

It is great to hear that you are looking to take the next step on your career path by obtaining your CPA designation. We would be happy to support you on your journey.

I am happy to inform you that there is indeed such an agreement.

There are two pathways:

 1. Applicants who have completed ICAN CAPIII (examinations) are required to complete:

-          Ethics and Governance
-          Strategic Management Accounting
-          Financial Reporting
-          Strategic Management Accounting

2. Applicants who have completed ICAN CAPII (examinations) are required to complete:

-          Ethics and Governance
-          Strategic Management Accounting
-          Financial Reporting
-          Strategic Management Accounting
-          Two elective subjects
-          36 month ‘your experience’ requirement

Note: Applicants DO NOT have to be a full or provisional member of ICAN to be eligible for this pathway.

However they MUST hold a 4 year comparable degree or at least five years of senior relative experience which is current.

To begin your journey, we recommend you apply online via our website.  With your membership application.  you will be requested to provide:

  1. An application processing fee of AUD$160 (accept payment forms – credit card, bank cheque or Australian money order)
  2. Certified true copies of official academic awards/degree certificate
  3. Certified true copies of official academic transcripts
  4. Certified copies of 100 points of identification.
  5. Certified true copy of an original letter of good standing from ICAN, which confirms your current membership status, the date you joined as a member, the date your membership fees are paid until, that you have completed the required professional program and have not obtained your membership through mutual recognition with another professional body.
If additional information is required you will be contacted via email.

Your assessment will take approximately 10 working days from the date that CPA Australia receives all requested supporting documentation. Once completed, you will receive your assessment result via email, which will outline your path to achieve the CPA designation.

Windfall Gain Tax (आकस्मिक लाभमा कर) per Nepal Income Tax Act

Nepal's Income Tax Act defines Windfall gain as a gain obtained by means of lottery, gift, prize, tips, share of earning in a game (जितौरी)  or any other gain acquired incidentally.  Let us explain by example what can potentially be Windfall Gain.  1) Let's say apple recently launched a iPhone 14 in Nepal. Part of such launch, company offered its customer who buys iPhone, an iPad for free. The market value of the iPhone is Rs. 214,000 and that of iPad is Rs. 189,000. Is Postage Stamp (Hulak Ticket) mandatory for company registration in Nepal?

Postage Stamp was a mandatory part of the application for registration of a company in Nepal. In fact, it is not only for the registration of the company but for most of the government applications, be it simple handwritten or special forms. Thumb rule is no postage stamp no registration. You must be wondering is it in addition to an application fee or registration fee levied by the government. And, the answer is yes. This is on top of the regular service fee charged.  One can find the postage stamp easily in the nearby shops or cafeteria where such government offices are situated. However, with the Companies Act, 2063, and its directives issued in 2072, the provision of furnishing postage stamp along with application has been repealed. What does it mean?
